Fathy Salama Ft. DAAS
El Genaina Theatre is hosting Grammy Award music composer Fathy Salama, accompanied by more than fifteen Students from Music Department of Al Darb Al Ahmar Arts School in the Flying Concert. The concert is a showcase of the outcome of an intensive workshop focused on the application of music theory on today’s music. For the workshop, participants were encouraged to bring their knowledge in music to be used as material for the study and application of harmony, arrangement, scales, and rhythms concepts.
DAAS is one of El Genaina for Arts and Culture’s programs, which aims at helping children in Al Darb Al Ahmar area to explore their artistic and musical capabilities, and offering them a chance for employment in the future. The school has around 110 students in two department: Music Department which includes: Percussion, Wind instruments, and Accordion, and Performing Arts Department, which includes, Circus Arts, Dance and Acting.
Fathy Salama is a music composer, arranger, producer and pianist. The Grammy Award he got in 2004 makes him the only Arab Grammy winner. The BBC music award of 2004 and the Cairo International Film Festival prize of 2000 are also among his awards. In 1988 Fathy Salama put together his group “Sharkiat” which performed more than 2000 concerts and is still touring the world’s biggest Jazz and World Music festivals. Fathy Salama’s collaborations with renowned artists like Youssou N’Dour, Cesaria Evora and others produced nine albums two of which feature the “Sharkiat” project.
